Donna Karan New York is an American fashion company founded by designer Donna Karan and her late husband Stephan Weiss. The daughter of a tailor and a showroom model, fashion runs in Donna Karan's blood. She started designing for Anne Klein in the 1970s and launched her own brand in 1984. The designer achieved fame for her women's collections built around seven simple, interchangeable pieces, designed to take a woman from day into night.
The company extended its brands with the DKNY label, aimed at younger women, and eventually with DKNY Jeans, DKNY Men and DKNY Active, expanding over time into children's clothing, home accessories and beauty products as well.
The first perfume, Donna Karan for Women, was launched in 1992. In collaboration with Estee Lauder, new fragrances for men and women were offered throughout the 1990s. Luxury goods conglomerate LVMH acquired the company in 2000. Perfumes continue to be offered under the Donna Karan Beauty and DKNY labels.
The earliest edition of DKNY fragrances was created in 1992 and the newest is from 2014. Donna Karan fragrances were made in collaboration with perfumers Rodrigo Flores-Roux, IFF, Maurice Roucel, Olivier Gillotin, Pierre Negrin, Jean-Marc Chaillan, Calice Becker, Alberto Morillas, Harry Fremont, Trudi Loren, Yann Vasnier, Anne Flipo and Yves Cassar.
